The International Republican Institute (IRI) seeks a Researcher and Writer to join its program in Ukraine.  The Researcher/Writer will work as part of a team to help promote democracy in Ukraine by working with the IRI program staff as well as collaborating on specific writing projects to highlight the program to a wider audience. 

The position lasts from the starting date until November 30, 2016 with the possibility for extension.

The Researcher/Writer will play a key role in supporting the work of IRI related to researching/analyzing political issues in Ukraine.  Under the direction of IRI Resident Country Director (the “RCD”), and together with IRI Program Officer(s), the Researcher/Writer’s responsibilities will include the following:

• Providing assistance and support to IRI’s program staff as well as its Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist.
• Drafting and editing documents in both English and Ukrainian. Must be an excellent writer in Ukrainian, Russian and English.
• Must be able to condense large amounts of information into key messages and soundbites.
• Possess graphic design skills to help design and create engaging, interesting and clear messages in mailings, charts, emails and reports to funders.
• Capable of researching political topics in Ukraine and analyzing key data.

• Capable of undertaking independent research topics under the supervision of IRI’s Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist.
• Other duties as required.

Successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
• Previous experience working with a  development project, NGO or International Organization
• Prior experience with researching/analyzing political topics
• Fluency in English, Ukrainian and Russian; professional English language skills and the  ability to write professionally in English, Ukrainian and Russian
• Skilled communicator, both verbally and in writing
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Collaborative, team oriented individual
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
• Good graphic design skills
• Good computer skills
