ESTIMATED PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE/LEVEL OF EFFORT: Short-term paid internship
BACKGROUND: The eight-year USAID Democratic Governance East (DG East) Activity aims to strengthen the connection and trust between citizens and their government in eastern and southern Ukraine by promoting an inclusive civic identity and common civic values and addressing the divisive impacts and the consequences of the ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine. DG East works to (1) develop greater acceptance of a shared civic culture based on common values and understandings, (2) increase participation to improve Ukraine’s governance and reform processes and help to resolve community problems and (3) strengthen local economic recovery of relocated, newly liberated, and frontline communities in Government of Ukraine-controlled eastern and southern Ukraine, DG East activities are implemented across four regional portfolios and an office in Kyiv.
JOB SUMMARY: The Communications Intern will support DG East’s reporting, communications, and outreach. This will include supporting DG East’s communications team in managing DG East's social media accounts, conducting media and social media monitoring, assisting with developing content for DG East’s accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn, and other administrative duties as assigned.
The Communications Intern will perform the following tasks:
- Develop and maintain familiarity and proficiency in all DG East activities.
- Assist in managing DG East’s social media pages and posting content.
- Monitor the media coverage of DG East and its partners.
- Assist in the preparation of communications materials.
- Ensure the proper usage of USAID branding in communications materials.
- Archive photos received from activities, grantees, and DG East partners on a regular basis.
- Assist with file management.
- Assist with photographing events and activities.
- Assist with graphic design for social media.
REPORTING: This position reports to the Communications Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A
DUTY STATION: Kyiv, Ukraine. Potential for remote work.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel throughout Ukraine when requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Student enrolled in a university program in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, or a related field
- Excellent writing skills in Ukrainian and English
- Ability to create engaging content for social media and other online platforms, including short videos (reels)
- Excellent knowledge of social media management
- Intermediate photography and/or videography skills are preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
