We expect participants to be between 18-30 years old. The summer school takes place in one of the most beautiful and interesting rural regions of Poland, the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, that had many Ukrainian / Lemko villages until the late 1940, when these minorities were deported by the communist authorities to other parts of Poland and to Ukraine.
We will learn about the history of Ukrainians and about Polish pro-Ukraine initiatives that were established in February/March 2022. We will meet local artists and activists who preserve the local heritage and who are engaged in artistic and civil society projects of significance going far beyond the local context. The place will provide an opportunity to take a break and find some new energy for the work as activists and volunteers. The school will provide us time and space to address the feelings we have in this difficult situation. And to do so we’ll use various creative tools: music, paintings, poems, filmmaking.
Our common language will be English and we will also use Ukrainian, Polish and German to enrich our language skills.
