The German Kreisau-Initiative and the Polish Krzyzowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe invite university students from Poland, Germany, Ukraine and Israel with background in social sciences or who are interested in the topic in general to participate in our project “On the traces of Jewish history and commemoration in Lower Silesia and Galicia”.
It is a 10 day excursion to Lower Silesia (Poland) and Galicia (Ukraine) April 26th to May 6th 2012 exploring the Jewish history of these two regions and the different ways of remembering it.

WHO CAN APPLY: University students with background in social sciences or who are interested in the topic in general from Poland, Germany, Ukraine and Israel aged 18 to 25. You can apply as a group or individually. The places are restricted to 8 students per country.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
“Cultures of remembering - Jewish history and commemoration in Lower Silesia and Galicia” is an excursion with lectures, presentations, seminars and workshops, interviews with contemporary witnesses and visits of memorial sites. On their journey the students do not only trace back the Jewish history of Lower Silesia and Galicia, but also follow the trails of the old an new geographical borders, analyse the different perspectives of Polish, German, Ukrainian and Israeli historiographies and explore the borders existing in the heads of people.
A group of 32 university students from Poland, Germany, Ukraine and Israel will meet and work together. The result of the project is an online photo exhibition.
