Research Objectives
- The first objective is to identify and provide a high-level horizon scan of the best available academic research and evaluative data concerning which education interventions (including of the kind offered by international ‘cultural relations’ actors such as the British Council) foster security, peace and stability globally.
- The second objective is to identify frameworks, evidence and theories of change from this research and data that can provide insight into the contribution British Council education programmes from recent decades have made to security and stability in the countries they are delivered and for the UK. This will involve identifying the best available evidence from past British Council programmes as well as similar programmes ideally undertaken by other educational and cultural organisations working internationally. It will provide analysis as to what particular contribution such organisations can make and how they do so.
- The third objective is to identify models that could help us to better understand how the British Council’s future work could be adapted to provide greater benefits for security, peace and stability, and to enable us to provide convincing cases for its expected benefits.
